Nights of Peaceful Dreaming

No need to worry 'bout everything I've done
This is unexpected, and oh so sad ;;

Live every second like it was my last one
The days, the weeks, they all dragged on. Life was a dull existence, and maybe it was because she knew what was waiting on the outside - nearly half the beings she had come to love, and the ones in her family who she dreamed of loving- but she was stable, constant. Always here. She lived in cycles, cycles of activity in spring and summer, and she tapered off to hide in winter. Today she was determined to spend time with those that she did have here, and for the moment ignore those long gone. At least, that had been her goal as she exited her den and headed towards the community room. What she found there, however, caused her to stop and a small smile grew on her face. Phasma looked so peaceful, so content.

The careful mother approached the ebony female and gingerly reached out, touching the Beta's head in a loving sweep against her fur. What she felt was not the warm, vibrant feeling of life, it was the lukewarm ebbing of the flames Phasma was slumbering next to. Fatin nervously chewed her lip, eyes instantly beginning to water, softly, carefully she called out her voice nothing more than tentative whisper "Phasma?" Silence. And she knew the girl wouldn't just ignore her. The still of her chest, the silence when amongst the crackle of the fire there should have been steady exhales. Fatin knew, and yet would not accept. The mother wolf whined softly, perhaps the most animal like impulse taking over her, her action guided by instinct rather than just her heart. She wrapped her body carefully around the girl and cried freely and fully. And finally, as the tears slowed, she released the cry of mourning, a symphony of sadness that reached the very depths of her packlands to announce to all of their members that they had lost n ot only their Beta, but a member of their family.
