It wasn't that he was particularly lost in his thoughts that day, nor that he had lot on his mind or had his head in the clouds, but he was feeling particularly... good, for some reason. The sun was shining, the weather was warm, the flutter of the leaves in the trees was charming. Nature was a bit of a boost even for the stone-faced, thick-hearted Patriarch; he could appreciate the simple things. Strange, how collected he felt that day... perhaps it had been the walk. Just a week ago, he'd been as traumatized and frenzied as he'd increasingly become over the previous two months, and yet it was as if he'd been granted a day off or some sort of release from it all. He should have gone and found Geneva -- he should have tried to have a talk with her when he wasn't upset or distraught or half-asleep... but there he went, getting lost in his thoughts as always.

Jefferson hadn't expected to be stopped, but the call he heard over his shoulder was undoubtedly sent in his direction. The tall male stopped and turned partially, glancing his single eye at his caller. His eye dropped quickly to the child in her arms; that was a bad sign, he was no sight for children. The brute quickly turned his face away, brows furrowed and scowl nearly pouting in a strange disappointment, and he raised his good arm to scratch at his face or ruffle his hair to avoid the child in her arms seeing his face and start screaming like he expected it might. Not only that, but something else appeared shortly thereafter, at which Jefferson had barely a glance. What was he, some kind of sideshow? "Uh," the brute stuttered as the woman drew near. "No, I just came to look. ...If you'll excuse me." The dismissal was a bit forced and gruff, more typical of his normal tone. He turned quickly. Nothing to see here.
