there's a hole in your soul, like an animal

From where he lay, Gabriel could see the majority of the southern borders. There had been a reasoning behind his decision to settle Inferni in such a seemingly hostile territory. Despite the rocky terrain, it was mostly open—during the late summer and fall, the grasses were tall enough to hide any coyote in them. Of course, this was also true for the wolves. Luckily the majority of these were either white or black, something which Gabriel had attributed to the small gene pool that existed in the ‘Souls territory. Of course, Inferni was no different. Very few members weren’t de le Poer or Lykoi. Still it was reassuring to know that there were few points of Inferni that were not able to see the borders.
That was how the Aquila spotted the pale wolf approaching. He rose to his feet, stretched by arching his back, and began trotting down the worn path. As he went he swung wide, frowning with displeasure as he spotted another smashed skull. Someone was doing that—someone with no pack scent. It was a male, which he managed to catch traces of only occasionally. The rain was doing well to wash any trace of the strange wolf from the borders. Grunting and pushing forward, he moved with a sudden aggression in his step. If the wolf he had seen was responsible, then Gabriel would make certain his skull replaced the one that had been lost.
By the time he neared, though, the scent was not the one he had hoped for and instead belonged to a female, and to a pack. The aggression began to fade out of his body, though his eyes remained bright, ever alert. “Do you need something?” He asked, his head even with his tail, not presenting the air of dominance that his wolfish blood so demanded.
