They would not stop their advances. And it was like her small voice did not warn them at the least. Perhaps snow-monsters didn’t speak the way wolves did, with their growls and barks and snarls. But Anu was doing so well, her little teeth bared for them all to see, the hackles along her back raised and her tail still and ridged. And still the came. Retreating back behind the log, the tawny girl regrouped and considered her options. They were bleak, stay within her castle until they lost faith and succumbed to starvation and let her be, but then she might be the one that would starve. There was nothing to eat behind her fallen tree and she didn’t think that her dam and sire would bring her bits of their kill. Or… The pup closed her eyes gathering the bits of strength, the small ounces of courage that would allow her to simply think of it. Charge. It would be suicide! There was too many, all too large and…

A bark, a single voice among the flurries that fall against her rampart. Anu perked, and looked over the log to find a shadow of a figure fighting just as she was. The young wolf was in the mists of a deadly dance against the foul creatures that Anu hoped to defeat. Reinforcements! Anu gave the Sun her praise, and felt her tail wag with excitement behind her. Overcome with the idea the pup bounced off the tree, running in a tight circle behind it. She stopped abruptly, her breath ragged but with a smile on her face. Front paws back against the log she looked out onto the battlefield and called out. “Exs’cuse me.” Her powerful call to arms came as a soft and meek voice. “Hi… Hi!” She said to get the attention of the green eyed girl. Maybe she didn’t want to play; maybe she would hate her and run away before Anu could offer her an alliance.
