Step, step right over the line

This had to work, the pup thought as she ran the plan over in her mind again. If there was anything that would chase the monsters away, this would be it. Though the were ferociously pounding against the fort's wall, Anu could see that they did not have a head commander, a form to their assault, and would scatter at the sight of their attack.

The pup smiled when the dark furred complimented her plan. Eyes fell to the ground at the thought, Anu had hoped that she would like it. When the emerald eyed pup spoke again Anu looked to her with grown anticipation. She hadn't even thought of that! It was true, the shiny ebony pelt would catch the eyes of the monsters and allow her to sneak up behind them.
"Yeahhh." Anu said in agreement, still a little astonished by her sharp idea.
"I'll go," She said as she eyed the exit of their fort. Looking back to her new friend Anu said with all sincerity and a little shyly,
"Your smart."

"Count to ten." She said with the returned seriousness she once claimed.
"And then jump." her voice was stoic, knowing that the other pup would need to be brave to play this part of the game. Taking up the small stick in her mouth Anu gave a exiting nod and then ran out into the greenery of the forest. She began to count to ten, slowly as younger creatures did. By five she was crouching behind a tree, eyes looking onto the small clearing the snow fell upon.
