The silvery coyote was not blind to the symbolism of the collar; perhaps that was what had drawn her eye so much. It seemed to make Vieira prettier, the fact that the collar was definitive evidence that she was Kaena's property. It was far different from friendship or even motherhood, for there was nothing Kaena could (or would) do to stop her children from leaving or hurting her. Vieira was restricted to acting when Kaena told her to act; she could not leave unless the ash-furred canid directed her to. This was strangely comforting to the silvery hybrid, and for a fleeting moment she wanted to ask Vieira to come closer, come here—but her mouth remained shut, and the silvery-hybrid still and quiet, her golden eye still roving the slight figure of the other canine, silent approval radiating from her. It was a long moment as the hybrid watched, her raptors' gaze drawn to the chain-collar again and again.

She shook her head suddenly, as if a trance had been snapped, and smiled faintly at the other canine. "You don't like it," the coyote said with a smirk, observing the girl's balled fists and uncertain expression. That was a given; the coyote did not have to ask why. The reason was clear; Viei was more aware of the symbolism behind the collar than the Centurion, after all. Still, Kae wondered how Vieira might react to that statement—was it worse to lie or disagree? The coyote watched for the other canine's reaction, mischievousness sparkling in her single remaining eye. Perhaps this was another sort of test or just an excuse to berate her—either way Vieira might figure she was wrong, and that conundrum the Quintus might face gave the silvery hybrid some faint amusement, the ghost of a smile showing in her raised lip, showing just the tips of her dangerous yellow fangs.
