In Character

No part of Kai’s history mattered here. He had come, absolved of all past mistakes, and found his purpose in a blue eyed man that could lead him to glory. Like all boys, he was quick—he read the man before him and while he had found power in his initial form, the moment he saw doubt, he saw weakness. A terrible and cruel smile broke over his face, parting his jaws and revealing white teeth that had, just weeks before, cut into his own family’s flesh and blood. His worthless brother and whore mother had both tasted the same; like cowardice and fear. They had been terrified they would loose their power and their lives. Kai was not afraid of these things, not so long as he would die in a blaze of glory so the world might know his name.

His eyes, too, darkened considerably—almost an entire shade. It was, truly, as if something dark and devilish inside of him had been stirred by that singular act. Doubt. It was a weakness and unforgivable. As much as Sic had shown his contempt, it was nothing compared to the sudden ferocity that rose into Kai’s long legged body and pushed forward. He bumped one shoulder roughly into the darker timber wolf’s leg, slapping this same body part with his tail as he moved, snake like, to circle in front of his companion. That wicked smile clung to his face as if it had been carved there. The boy was all but gone; there was only a wicked little monster who had no patience and no sympathy for weakness here. “You don’t know much about tracking, do you?” He asked, contempt rising in his tone. His eyes were twin topazes, glittering with a dark fire that barely looked alien on his boyish face.
