Anger rose in the canine's chest, bubbling up from somewhere deep within Sicarus. The idea that he had a mother violated every principal he held dear; he was not from a woman. He had not come from one of those things, those less-than-canine things that hardly who hardly even deserved the crumbs that fell from men's faces as they gorged themselves. They deserved nothing, they needed nothing—and Sicarus had not come from one of them! Still, despite these raging ideas that surfaced from in him, he knew somehow that he did have a mother. He had always known this; the denial was simply so deep and so all-encompassing it devoured everything else, forcing the memories of her face, murky and barely there as it was, down into the depths of his brain, only surfacing now and again to plague him. He did not love her. He did not revere her. He cursed her, he drove her back to the cage she occupied only in his memory. He was above her.
The other wolf's words cut and sank deep into the tawny-furred man's psyche. Fire burned behind the Gazon's eyes and the growl was more than a soft rumble now. He sped up after Kai as he darted away, enraged by the game of keep-away this fool was playing. Sicarus would rip his tail off for implying that he of all canines had a mother. "I do not have a mother!" he repeated, roaring the words as if increasing the volume would make it more of a truthful statement. The other canine's posture taunted him, tormenting him and goading him further. Sicarus took several wide steps toward the other canine, stretching his stride as far as it would go, his tail arced in annoyance and an expression of utter rage plastered across his face. Sicarus was not terribly attractive to begin with, but now the look on his face was purely ugly, marred by the hatred he felt for women as a whole and especially that ghostly mother figure floating in the deepest reaches of his brain and memory.
