In the moments of silence between them, Kai’s ears swiveled this way and that, hearing the same small foot falls as they scrambled through the house. There was no doubt an infestation of some sort of rodents, but between the two of them getting the small beasts out of the house wouldn’t be a problem. Kai was fast on four legs and Sicarus likely knew how to survive in the wild, so they’d be set for a bit with small meals. Obviously, they would need to hunt—Kai needed the thrill of chasing down his prey, and wouldn’t settle for tiny snacks for long. He was a big wolf, and had to regain the weight he had lost during his travels.
Of his family, Kai had been the only one with blue eyes. His mother’s were brown, and his brother’s were as well. The fact they had never changed had meant something, but in Kai’s world there was nothing mystical, nothing terrible or lurking in the shadows, only the things he could be grounded in. Power and weakness, alpha and omega. Kai knew the laws of claw and fang but knew nothing beyond this. His world was simple, and he liked it this way. As long as he was fed, as long as he could sleep, he would do whatever was asked of him. Kai was content with his life, as long as it was not unsatisfying. Once he gained power, he would hold onto it desperately. Strength was the only thing that kept him alive.
Sicarus tried to explain things again, kept mentioning Texas (whatever that meant) and how he was used to such a place as a house. Pursing his lips, Kai turned his head as the older man walked around the furniture and towards a cave like hole in the wall behind him. The tawny wolf dropped his paws and sat on the couch, surprised that he sank into the thing, but far too interested in what Sic was doing to notice for long. “Sure, whatever,” he said, not knowing anything about the matter to have an informed opinion. While Sicarus might consider Kai the leader, for the moment he was the one that had the upper hand.
