The coyote woman was not an exceptionally warm presence on the border. In truth, none of the leaders truly were; in general, the nicest one could hope for was, in all likelihood, Anselm. And even he was not one to tolerate much in the way of improper behavior. This female had done nothing of the sort to irk Kaena, however, and the silver-furred woman had no reason to show annoyance at the younger canine. There was none in her; she preferred for these interactions to remain swift and impersonal. One could not accurately judge character if feelings developed. They only got in the way. As for swiftness, the she-coyote saw no need to make these interactions arduous and taxing. In time, coyotes either proved their worth, or they did not. The multi-hued woman spoke, drawing the Centurion's attention. This was the most important part. Her skills were stated confidently, and she seemed certain of herself. This was always a good quality.

Inferni already had one of the best healers—in Kaena's opinion, anyway—in all of the lands, but the she-coyote knew added knowledge was never a bad thing. Perhaps Mercedes knew something Fatin did not; either way, the more people they had that were knowledgeable regarding plants, the better. The greenhouse needed tending to. “I would think all your skills would be useful here,” the cloud-colored hybrid commented. “We have recently erected a greenhouse where will grow plants, and fighting skills are always handy in a war,” the woman stated, just the tips of her fangs showing in a smile. Stating the obvious rather dryly was Kaena's brand of unfunny humor; ten years later and she still had yet to figure out it rarely, if ever, roused so much as a chuckle from her companionship. “You'll have the rank of Tirones for now. If you head to the center of the territory, you can find the caves, where many of us live. Head through the forest and you'll find the mansion. Either would be a good place to rest, if you need it,” the hybrid said. Most newcomers seemed tired when they came on Inferni, and for good reason—she herself had been positively exhausted on her last return.

“To the west is Dahlia de Mai. They are the enemy—if you want to make yourself useful right away, you could think about spending tonight patrolling the western border,” the coyote woman suggested. Once Mercy had settled in and rested a while, she could acclimate herself with the territory, starting over to the west. In the hybrid woman's head, that was the hot zone at the moment—it would be prudent to pick up knowledge of that area immediately. “Stay within the borders, though. There are traps set outside of them, marked by stones. Don't get caught up in one of them,” the woman said. It was more than likely Mercy would be able run into someone who could give her a more thorough breakdown of the war—either in her search for a home or during her investigation of the territory, either way. “Do you have any questions?”
