if you knew him then

Aaaaand run awaaaay!

He knew the risks he was taking by staying. Jefferson was aware how wicked, twisted ruler Haku had become, but his place in Dahlia still stood strong—he would have been forcefully removed by now had his members found it appropriate, and yet he remained. The concept of reinforcements, though they would be terribly misguided, was not an impossibility. It was dangerous for him to be there, as seconds ticked on, and increasingly so as his brother circled him like a hungry vulture. It was a cowardly thing to do, to call on back up rather than fight alone. Jefferson scowled. Haku was nothing but a coward.

"This isn't over," the Patriarch hissed. Fighting now was useless; with the possibility of dozens more at his throat at any second, he couldn't risk it. Had he still been a loner, working on his own and killing to survive, then there would have been nothing to lose—but Phoenix Valley needed him now, and wouldn't survive without him. He still had things to live for, things to accomplish. He wouldn't give it all up this easily.

Green eye flashed, and with the utmost caution, he ducked out of the circle his brother walked and disappeared. He couldn't stay there any longer.
