An accident...

I meant to hop in a few posts ago, but I had a meeting earlier and got distracted. >_> 500+ words.

He was still getting used to his new post as the pack's King, but so far, the former Constable was not finding it to be terribly difficult. He had been performing the same duties as the Constable, but he simply had a different title now. The change in hierarchy had been met by mixed reactions by the pack, though no one had seemed to be angry with him and no one had challenged the decision he and Ruri had made. Some members had seemed unhappy, but none so much as the young Dauphine. Vigilante felt terrible for the obvious grief she was feeling, though it was not his fault. He wished that there was something he could do or say to make her feel better, but it seemed that the best way to ease her pain was to simply let time heal her. No one could bring Jacquez back, and no one could change the fact that he had left in the first place.

Never in his life had he anticipated being a subleader, and it had seemed even stranger to think that he was now the King of Cour des Miracles. The large secui male left his house, determined to go on another round of patrol, something he had been doing every day since his original promotion in November. He knew that there were others doing the same thing (particularly Haven, the knight of the pack), but it did not hinder his desire to make sure that the pack was safe firsthand. He was glad things seemed to be settling down. The pack was still high in numbers, and though they had gotten a large influx of joiners a few weeks prior, that seemed to have settled down some, as well. Vigilante liked when the pack gained new members, but it was nice to know that the pack was fairly stable. Things might be a bit ruffled after the change in leadership, but he was certain that everything would be fine.

Since he had started in the area closest to the other packs that morning when doing his border patrols, the large secui dog mutt made his way to the sandy coast. The heavy scent of the salty ocean was noticeable before he could actually see the water, but as he approached, a figure—no, two, he realized, though the second seemed very short and small—came into view. The King recognized the pink and white woman, Orin, from having met her a few times now, but he did not recognize the male at all. No pack scent hung on him, and that went for Cour des Miracles, as well. It was very obvious that the male did not belong in the pack's territory, and Vigilante felt a guarded defensiveness rise in his chest at the realization.

Approaching them more now, the secui male carried himself in a dignified and authoritative manner. He turned to Orin and offered her a polite smile, saying, "Hello, Orin. It's a pleasure to see you again. I trust you and your brother are doing well?" He had met her brother, Niro, quite some time ago nd had liked the oyung male, as well. "I am Vigilante Haskel, the King of Cour des Miracles," he said clearly to the one he suspected was a trespasser. He waited expectantly, not questioning the man's presence or his name. If he had any sense, he would explain and introduce himself. Vigilante was not judgemental, and he tried to be fair to everyone, but he did not take kindly to those that were in places they should not be. Still, he hid this well, his expression both very stoic and very dignified.
