Wiggling? He said it had been wiggling! Somehow, it never dawned on her that the thing could move at all. Of course, anything could shift if there was a living creature inside of it, but it looked like it was little more than a large hand-worked stone, not the safe haven of a growing, living thing. Both her eyes and mouth formed a surprised O at the revelation, and she tilted her head in wonder.

She held out her hands to take the delicate egg from her brother as he carefully and worriedly handed it to her. Even Orin understood the importance and trust it took to relinquish this to her, and the love he had for his sister in just agreeing to it. Her surprised expression became a warm smile as she took the egg. The one thing he would not have to worry about was the care in her hands. Orin had grown to be quite graceful and dexterous, and sitting on the floor as she was, she was unlikely to blunder and drop the egg.

She cradled the egg to her chest and looked down at it as thought it were already a living, breathing creature. Then she suddenly realized something. Turning her eyes to Niro, she quirked a brow, “If it’s stuck in the egg, how does it breathe?”

She looked back to the egg, and much like her brother, was compelled to draw her hand across the smooth shell, petting it as though it already hatched. The creature within wiggled, and she gasped when the weight shifted in her hands. “Did you see that?!” She giggled as she peered at the mottled egg, watching it intently and waiting for another twitch, but it seemed to have stilled again. “What are you going to name it?”
