The silence and the utter calmness of the weather out by the lakeside today still lingered about them as before, but it felt so much different. Only moments ago it had seemed so suffocating and stifling to be surrounded by such tranquility while stepping to the dance of anger and argument that the siblings had perfected years before. Now the quietude seemed much more comforting, as if someone had draped a warm blanket over their weary shoulders and whispered soothing words into their ears. It was such a simple change, and at the same time, an astounding one.
The Marino man kept his gaze locked with his earthen hued sibling, just as aware of the silent understanding that they passed between their depths. Simply stopping like this and taking in the situation wasn’t something either of the Italians had considered before, but right now it seemed like the perfect remedy to their frequent bantering. He could only smile at Ghita’s little comment. As she took Ehno’s hand in hers, he gave her hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze, the smile on his lips softening just a bit. He was glad for the unexpected little turn this ‘conversation’ of theirs had taken, enjoying the closeness of the moment and the tranquility that seemed to settle over them.
