He didn't know what it was that had stirred him from his slumber at first. Bright turquoise eyes remained unfocused for a few seconds and he stared straight ahead in a dazed confusion. He felt a little chilly despite the sun that shone brightly overhead, unused to going without the warmth of his mother's soft, furry belly during sleep, and shivered against the light breeze that wisped through the territory. A small frown crossed the pup's face when he realized that he had fallen asleep.
Then, with the turn of a head, he realized what it was that had made him wake up. There was a big, big wolf...one a color he had never seen before! She had really weird looking eyes, two different colors, as well. Was she a ghost?! Saul had told him stories about ghosts. They were bad news! It asked him a question and he watched its mouth move, trying to move his head so that he could see up inside of the mouth. Could he fit in there?
He was very afraid of this ghost but knew that he would have to answer its question, lest it devour him. What would his Mama say if he didn't come back because he had gotten eated? She would be looking for him. And his siblings would miss him too. His voice was shaky as he responded, quivering a bit as he got all four paws beneath him again. "Neck hurt, fur hurt...Do ok! Do ok though! Runned fast. Mama..mama sleeping. She sleep by da red watur" He lifted up a paw to show her the water too. "Where joo come from, ghost? I fit in mouth? No like that."
