The pallid Sadira had always pictured Anu with children surrounding her. Both she and her daughter Mati had the qualities that children loved — he knew this because they reminded him of his father as he perceived him when he was a child. From his eyes he saw that they loved the young ones, and maintained a patience and willingness to show that love for however long was needed. Kansas knew that his own babies adored Anu, for how could they not? He had sensed her longing for children of her own, and was thankful that the chance had been given to her. The brute did not even care to know who the young ones' father was. It was inappropriate for him to want this knowledge and also unimportant: the puppies would have Anu, who would make a wonderful mother as surely as Spring would come.
She did not seem disturbed by his presence. Kansas would have left her in peace the second she asked; that was the extent of his respect for her. Instead, she invited him to join her in her relaxed state beneath the apple tree, not entirely unexpected. He was simply thrilled for time to talk with her. I'd love to. The snowy wolf did not forget his manners in the presence of the esteemed leader, lowering his small ears as he drew closer, slipping into a seated position with his shoulders loose and submissive. He stayed a distance away from her, wishing her to see his simple, reverent awareness of her. His tail curled around his front paws, the longer hairs of silk picking up petals as it swept by. He breathed in the sweet-smelling air, casting a turquoise glance her way and continuing to smile cordially. How are you doing? He stole an innocent glance toward her belly, which was definitely much rounder than was the usual for the small-framed fey.
