Kansas offered his help, yet he had no doubts in Anu's ability to care for her children on her own, even if the little ones weren't to have a father to share their home with. Hopefully, the sire of the gray lady's pups had not hurt her in any way, that there was no issue of abandonment. Of course, this was all business of hers alone, and she did not seem to him to be troubled. Surely whether or not her children had a father was of no importance. He saw clearly in the serenity of her deep blue eyes that she would be a good mother no matter what. The boy knew this because he'd always seen something similar in Savina. Their own offspring would be fine should anything ever happen to him, he was sure.
There was another silence after Anu expressed her own anticipation for her children, but it was not at all awkward. Kansas' closest relations were with the those who could be comfortably silent with him, with whom he shared moments of quiet thoughtfulness. He'd never seen her reading and therefore assumed that she didn't find books important. This wasn't offensive to him, for he understood the preference of some to avoid human customs.
