Vigilante's eyes settled on the lovely frame of his mate as she came to his side. It still astounded him how well she could manage to pull off the old human clothes, just as many other members of the pack did. He certainly could not, and even now, he felt as though the jacket he had adorned was stifling. It was only for one night, though, and he wanted to look even half as good as Ayita, if only so that he did not take away from her loveliness by not dressing up a bit. The caramel-colored King leaned down, whispering to her, "You look absolutely beautiful." He did not mind if no one else heard—the words were meant for her. Vigilante enjoyed their small, private moments, even if they were far and few between. He cherished their relationship more than anything. It was so hard to imagine that, so long ago, he had thought he would have no hope to be with her. Ayita had seemed to unattainable back then. Now, he could not imagine living without her by his side.
His gaze travelled to the stage as Zafier and Strelein began to play. The King had known of Strelein's talent with the lute, though he had been unaware of his brother-in-law's musical abilities. He supposed it was because he did not know the man as well as he could, though he hardly blamed himself for that. It was difficult to want to know him more when it had been so obvious that, in the beginning at least, Zafier had not approved of him as a mate for Ayita. It did not surprise him when Ayita left his side, though he did miss the contact the moment that it was gone. As she joined her brother on the stage and began to sing, he watched her with a faint smile. She had been singing when he had found her, one of their first meetings. She truly had a lovely voice.
