Sniff. Sniff. The smell of fresh air. He hadn't smelled anything like it in over a week. In retrospect, it was ironic how much you took advantage of something like clean, cool air until you were lost in a network of tunnels for several days. The damp, nasty air he had been breathing for days was finally starting to get to him just as this literal breath of fresh air hit him. His skin underneath the fur prickled along his body. He could feel it. Freedom. And it was within reach!

Picking up the scent, he turned his angular head toward the break away tunnel on his left, loping through the built up grime and stale water. His powerful legs moved quickly, but with an obvious effort. The lack of fresh food and water was taking its toll on the wolf. Another left. The bricking beside him flew past as it slowly changed into cinderblocks. The path he was on slowly inclined upwards, giving him an even more encouraging sense of relief. His paws pounded the cracking cement as his dark body flew up the final bend, bringing him to a large tunnel leading to a grate. His gray eyes locked onto the grate with difficulty. The light pouring through the broken bars stung his eyes, but he pushed on, staring straight at it with what seemed like every once of jubilation in his body. Thirty meters left. Twenty. Ten... five... his body tensed and his legs flexed, throwing him into the air right at the grate...

Bursting out into the daylight, the dark furred wolf let out an excited bark. In the light, his fur shone with obvious care, looking like an angry thundercloud with as many different shades of gray than thought possible. As he felt the grass beneath his paws, he ran in a tight circle with one last happy jump beforing calming down and taking stock. He was in... what was this place? His tail, a split second ago raised straight up into the air, now slowly dropped as he studied the surroundings. Long, dark buildings in an obvious pattern spread out from him with overgrown vegetation fighting back against the man-made structures. Vehicles of some sort, heavily armored, lay about in various levels of disrepair. Something was strange here... and he knew he wouldn't be comfortable if he had to stay here at night.
