Capturing Moods

The white lady with the navy eyes was before her again, speaking, only the words were inaudible. Soundless bursts of energy sprang forth from the old woman’s lips and hit Nayru full force as she tried in vain to understand her. The youth was growing frustrated; she could tell that the message was important. All the messages that the white lady gave her were important, but why suddenly was the lady voiceless? Or had Nayru gone deaf? Nayru opened her mouth to ask for clarification and found that no sound escaped her either. Sharply then came the woman’s words. Love never dies a natural death. Remember that. Nayru’s lips formed an “Oh” shape as once again speech eluded her, and then suddenly the white lady was nudging her in the side.

Opening her eyes she realized it was not the white lady of her dreams at all. Staying very still as she peered up at the creature that had awakened her, Nayru’s tail slowly thumped against the dock in a childish but friendly manner. The women had eyes the color of robins’ eggs, or maybe the sky on a very clear, bright day. For a long moment Nayru gazed at the lady with her blood colored eyes and then very slowly brought herself up onto her feet. Absent mindedly she dipped her head in greeting, trying to shake off the sleep and integrate herself into the waking world again. What had she been doing before she fell asleep? Oh right, seeking out the others… and here one of them was.

The idea that fate had brought the woman to her made Nayru smile a bit, but it quickly faded. Fate couldn’t be trusted, the universe might make plans but it didn’t always work that way, and Nayru had yet to determine how fate worked. This might not be fate at all, it might be nothing. It might just be that the woman was checking on Nayru and now that the pup was awake the lady would leave. Or not. The cow patterned pup had no idea what the lady wanted, and so all Nayru could think to say in her soft, doe-like voice was "I’m Nayru." And then wait for the lady to say something.
