drink it all in

[html]Set on June 11 2010. Preferably someone from Inferni or if it would make sense that your character would be in this area. Later someone with medical knowledge will need to be called or she'll need to be carried to someone/somewhere safe. This thread can end up being spread out into several others as she recovers, enjoy! Mature for blood and more than likely language, along with other things I cannot yet account for.

Marishka had awoken this bright, calm morning with a strong urge to wander, unable to remain still for long until she left her tiny camp--which had grown to include a rock lined fire pit, tent and a leaf covered hovel where she kept here valuables--within Arachnea's Revenge without even a second glance, wandering what she fondly called the spider wood. The auburn and mahogany girl headed north, her gait casual and path uncharted, a lazy smile reaching her lips and lighting up her young features. She contemplated changing her course and heading east to the shoreline. Perhaps she would stumble upon Rurik there, have some fun toying with the much older man, something compelled her to continue her northern course though.

It was still morning when she stopped for a break, taking in a deep, cleansing breath of air as she inspected her surroundings. She was well within a damp wood, close to where the mountains began so she could see them looming up ahead, even close to the familiar scent of a nearby pack though she kept distant of their borders. She wondered where she might turn to next, if she should perhaps head back or towards the beach and her beloved ocean. Maybe there was some small prey nearby she could track and kill for her next days meal? Something seemed to be unsettling the Russian girl, some strange instinct telling her to keep pressing on even though she could not place a finger on what was unsettling her so.

Marishka turned about suddenly to the sound of rustling in the brush behind her and it took all of her willpower not to cry out in alarm. Before her stood a cougar, an animal feared and respected by most. Muscles rippled beneath its to thin form, shoulder blades rolling as it flexed its paws, claws raking at the damp earth beneath it. Its amber eyes seemed to reflect what little light there was beneath the canopy and its tail twitched in a mesmerizing motion behind its tawny and rigid back. The skilled predator must have remained down wind of the girl for surely she would have noticed it some time ago.

Marishka drank the fear she felt in with her eyes, felt it trickle down her throat and spread through her chest, immobile in its chilling grasp. Perhaps if she remained still it would pass her by, even as Marishka thought this though she knew it to be a lie. The creature before her was to thin, a hungered determination within its eyes, willing enough to clash with other predators if it meant meat. It was then Marishka felt a tingling warmth washing through her, regaining control of herself once more as her survival instinct kicked in. Her hand flexed uncontrollably from the muscle strain and stress as she reached slowly for her dagger. The cougar took a slow and measured step forward, ears flattening and tail increasing its tempo. A trickle of sweat ran down the side of the Russian girls face, an ear twitching back, her eyes never wandering from the beast as she let the breath leave her lungs. She could shift but could she do it in time? Was she big and strong enough to fight tooth and claw?

Marishka grabbed hold of her daggers hilt in its side sheath attached to her shorts, pulling until only a glimpse of silver lay bare. The cougars gaze flicked to the weapon then back to Marishka's violet eyes, as quick as anything. It was then muscles tensed and all vision left Marishka. The cougar had leapt onto the girl and all she could feel was a searing pain--ten times as worse as when she sliced her right palm open on a piece of glass so long ago in Russia--as tooth and claw tore into her flesh.

It ended as quickly as it began, both cougar and wolf in her optime form laying still upon the ground. It was some time before one of them stirred and Marishka groaned, her hand dropping from the dagger that had ended the cougars life with a well aimed blow to the heart. Blood seemed to cover the clearing from top to bottom, the stench of it warming the air. Red was splattered against the leaves and the bark of trees, soaking into the earth beneath them. Even Marishka was a dark wash of red, barely recognizable in her tatter of clothes save for her gleaming lilac eyes. There were deep cuts all over her, a gash across her face and chest, deep puncture ones on her hips as if a lover had gripped her there to hard. It was hard to tell what other injuries she held for the blood was so abundant. It was the cougar whom appeared unscathed save for the dagger protruding from under it's left foreleg and the blood beneath it quickly being absorbed by the soft ground.

Marishka, slowly coming out of shock gasped loudly, drawing in quick, ragged breaths as if she just surfaced the water after being in its depths for far to long, tearing chunks of grass out of the earth beside her, trying not to squirm for the pain was all the more unbearable if she did. Suddenly a sob escaped her tightly pressed lips, each tear filled cry being followed by a gasping breath for air. She lay sprawled on the forests floor, her life's blood quenching the thirst of the grass beneath her, crying at the seeming finality of it all as she raised a shaky hand to grab at the finger bone attached to her necklace. It was all for nothing.
