She knew he was playing with her. With every yip he made, with every glance he shot her way as he came alongside her, her heart threatened to stop. The woman's mouth was dry as she sucked in air, her lungs burning with added strain as she tried to push her body beyond its capability. She needed to get away, she needed to escape, but she could feel the male closing in. No, not closing in. He had already gained on her, his little cat-and-mouse teasing ramming that fact through to Bris' foggy brain. If she got away now, it would be by the grace of the spirits alone, or by her attacker's twisted desire.

Tears threatened to spill from Bris' eyes as her desperation grew, but she forced them back. If nothing else, should would never let her sister's murderer know just how deeply he terrified her. Bris suddenly gasped for air as pain lanced through her right ankle and her body slammed to the earth. Wet sand caked into her white coat as she scrambled for some sort of purchase, red blood trickling down her muzzle from where she'd bitten her lip as she'd hit the ground. Panic threatened to consume her as she tried to pull herself away, stealing the breath from her lungs and the voice from her throat. Her ankle flared where the hybrid had caught her, but she ignored the pain as she kicked out with her back claws at her attacker. Bris' chest burned as she tried desperately to pull herself away with her arms, her front claws slipping in the moist sand as she gritted her teeth. She had to escape those burning red eyes. She just had to.
