In the past months, Rio had also grown slowly. She had morphed from a puppy to a young woman over what seemed a prolonged time, and even now she was noticeably smaller than her sisters. Her frame was skinny, lacking any sort of womanly curvature, which she was privately impatient for. She was tired of looking like a little girl, yet her body did not seem to want to change accordingly. Rio feared that she would remain skinny and ugly for the rest of her life.

She still spent most of her time away from the wolves of Phoenix Valley. Most days, the young girl could be found in the forest, roaming sporadically, resting when she was tired, eating when she was hungry. She was simply happier alone, especially since her family always seemed to be preoccupied. She would rather be alone than spend time with her siblings, especially when she felt like nothing more than a burden whenever she was with them. Perhaps this perception was wrong, and she consciously wondered if it was. She was too young to know how to change it.

Nearing the borders, Rio paused to lie down in the grass, panting in the heat of the sun. She had been roving Pheonix Valley since the early hours of the morning, and the heat was taking its toll on her all at once. A gentle breeze picked up, and her nose twitched instinctively to capture any oncoming scents. One in particular sparked her interest so greatly that she was again on her feet in one brisk motion. She hadn't realized that she was so near to the borders until now. It made sense that she should smell Lotus.

Her lengthy strides took the thin wolfess to the borders in a matter of moments. At first she didn't recognize Lotus, for he'd gained some length of bone — alas, she'd forgotten how much time had passed. He was aging just as she was. Once recongition had dawned upon the bright girl, she couldn't contain her elation. Lowering herself, she showered his chin in kisses, emitting happy whines all the while. To see a friend on such short notice was exactly the kind of surprise she loved. You're here! she chimed, her tail wagging crazily. I'm so happy to see you.
