Emerald eyes watched Tayui carefully as she spoke, nodding slightly to the reciprocal of her own wishes. Attila. She committed the name to memory, as well as the beautiful she-wolf's scent, hoping to recognize her son by that, if not by appearance or name. It was important to the mother to be able to offer such hope as the other had given her, but nothing her meager wisdom would do could diminish the haunting death of her daughter. Alaine saw it, even now, in her words - It would surely be a grief that spanned the rest of this woman's life, if only numbing slightly with the passage of time. She hoped, keenly and deeply in her breast, to never feel the same sorrow. It was a thing of nightmares, and the fact that Tayui could brave her emotions now without crumbling to ashes made her a tremendously strong figure in the healer's mind.

She doubted that her own strength would be so poignant. At heart, Alaine knew herself to be much weaker than appearances showed, much frailer of sanity and love than was expected from a mother with a stable pack. To lose her one and only child would be the end of her, and that was why she craved so fruitlessly for word of him.

Lost to her thoughts, and to the request of the ivory lady, Alaine was duly shocked to feel the feminine hand sliding into her own. For a moment, the Apothecary gazed down at the point of contact - Tayui's hand was larger than her, adorned with claws much more befitting of a wild creature than her own. But her palm was warm and welcoming, and the contact felt natural. Reassuring. Perhaps they both needed it, in their own separate ways. Emerald eyes lifted to the bi-colored ones of her new ally, and a ginger but grateful smile curved about pixie maw.

It was clear, now, that their wanderings had brought the pair close to the more open ground, from where Alaine would have no difficulty in finding her way back home. Home, to the silent and empty old Chien Hotel, where ghosts wandered the halls and sometimes loneliness gripped her heart and squeezed. The thought made her resolute. If this woman could bear her burdens, then Alaine's were incomparably easy. The memory of Tayui would keep her sane and humble for a long time to come.

She stopped where the trees opened and te forest dwindled. Gently removing her hand from the other's grasp, Alaine stood a moment, simply observing the new friend she had made. They were alike in many ways, and yet, Tayui was an admirable creature to her. She felt the pressing need to say something fitting, or offer some grand gesture of comradeship, but she had nothing on her apart from her healing equipment. Solemn jade eyes observed the other, thoughtfully.

"If you are ever in need of healing," The collie-woman began slowly, her accented voice gentle but resolute, "Come to my door. It will always be open to you, and your kin." Back where she came from, such a promise was as good as gold and jewels. The promise of acceptance into one's home was a sign of trust and respect, and it was all Alaine had to give.
