Ever fell into a comfortable rhythm, following the scent trail of the doe that raced in front of her. She became able to anticipate the deer’s movements, both creatures familiar with the woods. Her tongue lolled out of the side of her mouth where cream colored fur grew. Suddenly, the predictable doe sidestepped gingerly and galloped off in other direction. Caught by surprise, the wolf slowed to a stop for an instant and looked around, enraged at losing her prey while she listened to its light hoof steps fade into the forest. She could smell the male before she laid her grey eyes on him. He looked ready to follow her into the forest. She wasn’t going to let her prey slip from her claws. Lips pulled back, Ever snarled quietly before spinning rapidly around and fleeing back in to the woods.
The female let out a ravenous growl when the deer came into view again. It was slowing in front of a slope that dipped dangerously down to the sea. Teeth dripping, the grey wolf growled loudly at the moment another wave of hunger shook her stomach. Her feet circled the prey as it stared blankly in her direction, quivering slightly. Muscles bunching Ever sprang on top of the deer. The doe bellowed and kicked with her hind legs, shifting at the last moment. The wolf landed awkwardly on the prey’s haunches, digging her claws in while it bucked at her chest. Both creatures collapsed onto the grass but the grey wolf ended the scene quickly by a vicious bite to the doe’s neck, killing her instantly. She sat, panting for a moment, lying beside the dead corpse.
