Determination, patience

Good Heath thought as she gave her two worded response. She felt ready even though the male was not the keenest of creatures here, so close to the beasts that had brought purpose to his life when he thought it was about to end he could see clearly. His handling technique was not perfect, for Heath had come to understand that he would never be perfect, but beside a horse he was a better creature. Just as when he was beside the female who claimed his heart. These beasts claimed a part of him as well, and he was bettered because of it. He gave a nod, uncoiled half of his long rope and cut it with the knife that he always carried. His light colored hand handed it to her, eyes looking at hers. With a nod of his head the male turned to approach the herd that he had been tracking for a few days. They had drifted slightly, but not far for the grass was too good to leave just yet. Lumière walked beside him, as if in step with the lean coy-wolf. Heath touched her, drawing in the energy that she projected and learning from it. Meeting Lilliana had broken his concentration, but it was easy returned to him and the purpose of this venture solid in his thoughts and maybe even more so since she had the same. The canine walked together to the herd and when they got so close that their presence could not ignored by the other Heath roan mare moved away from him, her head lowered slightly, ears forward with innocent curiosity.

The male did not speak, his eyes watching the grazing beasts. Amber eyes looked to the female, wanting her to stay close to him. He asked her to come close with a gesture of his hand. Whispers would be best and he needed her to hear him. Heath took a deep breath, standing among so many horses was empowering for the Marshal and he needed to keep the calm that he had spoke about. Nerves and jitters would be smelled and sensed instantly, and Heath couldn’t risk any of them getting hurt. Lingering on the outskirts of the herd he spoke to the Aniwayan with his eyes scanning the herd. The large stallion there, He spoke, pointing to the sand colored horse that grazed alone beside the herd, he owns this herd and we are his guests. It was important to watch him, always. The male had seen him before; Lumière had recognized him as well. Her father perhaps, maybe a distant relative. Either way, she had once belonged to his group and that was the reason Heath had chosen them once again.

Allow them to greet you, if they want. Here. He handed her two apples from the sack he carried, a bribe for someone friendly. If there is any trouble, leave immediately. Don’t run. Heath warned her, waiting a moment for any softly spoken questions before leaving her side to seek out any horse that wished to greet him.
