She came to a halt beside her dark-furred sibling, setting the rabbit down on the ground with unnecessary care. She licked the small bit of blood from her lips, tongue greeted with its metallic tang. Rio’s cheerful comment brought a smile to her lips as she sat down in the grass. “Yeah,” she said, nodding her agreement. Lucia always preferred smaller hunts such as this, as they were quicker, easier, and altogether much more enjoyable. Speed, rather than strength, was her forte and it showed through in moments like this. She was happy that she had noticed Rio arrive in time to join in their little hunt.
Rio asked her how she had been, and the question served to remind Lucia of how far apart they had drifted since they were bumbling little pups. She shrugged a little, jade eyes focusing on the pale periwinkle of her sister’s as she considered it for a moment. “I’ve been okay.” She thought that she had moved on past all of the confusion and pain that hovered over her at the thought of her mother, but some of it still lingered there, turning some days sour. Did Rio even know about any of it, or was she still allowed the comforts of blissful ignorance? “How about you, Rio? How have you and your little fox friend been?” she asked in return, eyes drifting briefly to the happily munching fox before returning to her sibling.
