When she first looked up at him her eyes were so hollow, and it looked like she did not believe what she saw. As the moments ticked by recognition came to her face and she seemed to come back to herself a little. She apologized, for what he could not guess, and tears fell heavily from her lilac eyes. Those eyes made him think of his other sister, and it all pained his heart even more. Then a name came from her lips, a name that strangely enough he had heard before. He remembered that name as the one that Princess had given him after returning home one day very upset. He had wondered if the male had been his brother, and now that was confirmed. That, along with who had feared her attacker to be. His jaw clenched so hard he thought his teeth might shatter. Even if they didn't share a father, this Harlowe seemed to be taking after Haven's own sire. A silent oath was made to stop the bastard. Maybe not today, but someday. Haven wouldn't let this keep happening.
Rio hid her face and quietly sobbed. Once again his rage was smothered by the more urgent need to care for her and do whatever little he could to help her. Tentatively he rested a hand on her back, eyes full of painful sorrow for his little sister. "Rio...I'm so sorry. So, so sorry..." His being sorry wasn't going to do anything to help her though. The Knight felt helpless, not knowing what he could do, if anything, to ease the torment that she was going through. Soon though she looked back up at him and gave him something that he could do for her. "Don't be sorry Rio, this isn't your fault. It's his, all his," he said darkly. Without waiting any longer though, he gathered her fragile and battered body up in his arms, holding her close to his chest. Then he began walking as fast as he could without jostling her around overmuch out of Phoenix Valley and back towards Cour des Miracles. As they left that vile place, he whispered to her softly, "I won't let anyone hurt you like this again. Not ever again." It was a promise he would keep until his dying breath. Not only that, but he would make his twisted brother pay for what he had done.
