OOC: I'm gonna backdate this to Saturday, July 24th, so it happens before the reunion with everyone. I'm thinking maybe he runs into Giddy first, then he can actually accompany Drey into the house for the reunion at the end, or something. XD That way, even if we can't have a reunion thread with all the pups, we can still say it happened. ^^ And this sucks because it's been forever since I've played him. x.x

Dahlia de Mai. It was so much to soak in. It was a name Drey had thought never to assume loyalty to again. Oh he'd liked the packlands well enough when Haku had led them early on, but so much had happened since then. The russet Stormbringer was nowhere near the man he used to be. The wind shifted as he stood outside the door to the house, his hand running through his thick mane of hair as he sighed deeply. His mind full of confusing thoughts and memories, the male reached out his other hand and gingerly turned the stubborn door handle. It took a moment, but it gave, and he was swallowed by shadow as he walked inside and closed the door behind him.

The house was cool, with an air of quiet calm to it. It was a small colonial, two stories, with plenty of space for a bachelor to make his own. It's location was conveniently set beside the larger victorian residence belonging to Conor, Bris, and the pups among others. The pups...it was all so much to take in. Guilt flooded the male's soul like a tidal wave, remembering the long talk he had with Bris upon his return to Dahlia's borders. She'd been looking for him, and for good reason, for months now. How could he have possibly known? Kol's death had ripped him apart, both with loss and guilt and not having been there to protect her. All their lives, the two had been nearly inseperable, and now he'd failed her when she'd needed him most. And where had he been? To be honest, he couldn't even remember. Something had pulled him out of the cave near the beach that he'd claimed as his own, and he couldn't even remember what it was. It didn't seem to matter in the shadow of Kol's death.

Images of the women he'd loved and failed filled his mind as Drey casually walked through the house he'd decided to stake a claim to. Alexey's honey-warm eyes haunted him, her tawny face both serene and stubborn in the fading light of a long-ago sunset. Kol's violet glare, chiding him for something stupid he'd done, danced as her expression changed into one of mischievous amusement, her grin bringing a lump to his throat. Abigail...the face of a lover he'd never thought to take. She'd been a light in the storm during a horrific captivity for both Drey and his dark-furred sister, a kindness he would have sworn was impossible to exist amongst the Dawnrunners. Abigail had been an enigma to Drey, even helping in his and Kol's escape, and she'd fascinated him.

When Crow had found out about the taboo love affair, he'd been furious. In ending it all with Abigail, he'd saved her life from his grandfather's wrath, but the decision had haunted him endlessly since. And now there was no going back. Anger and heartbreak swelled in the male's chest as he pictured her, bloodied and broken because of him. The Dawnrunners had killed her for her sin, and the very man she was willing to die for hadn't had a goddamned clue. A howl of dark rage escaped the male's throat as his fist crashed through a wall in the old kitchen, blood mixing with the red fur of his knuckles as he stood there, breathing heavily through clenched fangs, his fist stopped short in its swing by a thick wooden stud.

Slowly, his rage ebbed away, replaced by a stinging grief that he'd grown accustomed to bearing alone. A shuddering sigh was the only sound he made as he pulled away from the wall, his green eyes searching the room for a scrap of cloth to wrap around his swelling hand. As he moved around the kitchen, he flexed experimentally, grateful that at least he hadn't been stupid enough to break any fingers. Finding nothing in the kitchen for his needs, he spat out a curse and made his way through the hallway to the front door, forcing himself to calm as he opened it and headed out onto the porch in the light of the midday sun.
