His kitty was getting farther and farther away from him and it hurt him terribly to know there could be such distance between them. Wasn't a good relationship about communication? How could he tell her what he felt when he could not find her? The woods, too, were no help: they were silent and brooding, refusing to give away the white female's location. She seemed to have disappeared, probably back to her Dahlian roots.

Hybrid continued through the forest, moving closer and closer to the pack's borders. He picked up her scent again, faint this time: it seemed as though she had come and gone somewhere nearby. He could not find her, for the forest was a house of mirrors and he could see was his own grotesque reflection. He began to pace on the spot, trying to follow her scent, but he had lost it again. She hadn't been here -- no, the wind told him she had been somewhere nearby, but not this far northwest. Nonetheless, he would have the last words.

"Kitty!" he shouted through the trees, hoping his voice might carry. "I will find you! Worry not! We will be together again!" He concluded this with a cackle, considering the future to come: a life with his dear feline companion would be so pleasant. He could not wait to find her again!
