She was back in the city. Lucia had done her best to avoid the old concrete jungle ever since she had run into her half-sister in one of the old forgotten shops out here. After that she associated this particular site of humanity’s remains with the tumultuous feelings she now had toward her mother. Each time she glimpsed the skyscrapers in the distance she would recall the lies and the secrecy that Mati had revealed to her and a lonely, angry dread would begin to gnaw at her. Something had lured her there today though, something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. Perhaps it was out of boredom, or out of the sheer loneliness that seemed to hang over the Valley of late. She and her kind-hearted sister, Rio, were the only two members of their little family that remained there. Aunt Ponti and Caprica had disappeared some time ago, and now even Harlowe had wandered away, for all she knew.

So maybe the city and its muted, overcast sky were preferable to having to dwell on that, to remain in the empty cabin she called home. Lucia could set aside the feelings this place gave her and try to settle on something new to replace it. The city was vast, filled with all manner of intriguing mysteries within every building. There had to be something here that could cheer her up. The sandy-furred girl drifted through an empty street in a portion of town farther west than she had traveled before. She must have stumbled upon one of the busier streets in the city, judging by the rows of abandoned cars and the debris that lined the road. Lucia slipped between two of the rusting cars and found herself on the sidewalk in front of a large building with huge display windows, some cracked, others broken. Curiosity propelled her through the doors and into the dim lighting of what had once been a large clothing store.
