The bag seemed to get heavier and heavier as he walked. Gideon had never really wished to shift, figuring that it would happen in its own time, but now he almost wished that he could do it. It'd make carrying the bag a whole lot easier. The pups were still squirming and yelping inside the sack and he occasionally stopped to prod them with his nose and make sure that they were okay. When he poked them they stopped squeaking, seeming to enjoy his touch. This made him very happy; maybe he had a way with puppies, who knew. One thing was for sure, though. Whoever had left the pups in the fire weren't getting them back! These were his puppies now.
Dawn broke over Dahlia as he reached the house, putting the bag down carefully to open up the front door. He then pulled it inside, the door slamming behind him, making him wince at the loud sound. He could now see that there was something written on the bag, symbols. What did they mean? Were they words? He couldn't make any sense of them if they were. He recognized only one letter from his encounter with bits of the human language; an S.
He reached the main living area and jumped up onto the couch, putting the bag down beside him. He wanted to free them from the bag and be sure that they were warm enough; it was a rather chilly night and he hadn't had arms to hold them close to him and keep them warm. The two chocolate-and-cream pups squirmed as he picked them gently up by their scruffs, sliding out of his sword's strap and placing them up against his side. He wasn't their mother and couldn't do much more for them other than keeping them warm, but that would be his duty for now.
They did feel a bit chilly to him as they snuggled up against his fur, and he curled around them instinctively. Once they were warm he would worry about what to do with them and what to feed them. He was exhausted and felt himself dozing off as the pups warmed up, eyes closing.
