The young girl didn’t know what to say. She would never be healed from her broken travels and splitting memories that haunted her thoughts when wandering. But a piece of clothing in exchange for the light rejection the man had pushed upon her frail and weak body didn’t seem fair. Strelein had no fault for his actions and even as he spoke of his deteriorating misconception Ever could see the remorse in his shallow lavender irises. She cast him a sideways glance of sympathy, trying to penetrate his guilt and swallow it.
In Lunenberg within the large walls of her new house and the gratification of her family, the sterling and slate female was perfectly content. Not one day of her fresh life did she wish for something different and she never would. But clothes. Now unique, current, and personal outfits belonging to Ever alone was something that was hard to realize being offered to her. She shook her head lightly and clawed her hair away from her face.
“I do not know.”
Her voice was soft, still unsure. If he was busy than this was getting out of control. She really didn’t need her own clothing as long as there was something out there. It felt like an honor but it took a lot to design an outfit so graceful that fit her body. A trill of excitement flipped her stomach. Would the fabric flow like the silk from the rusted chest in the corner of the stables? Or would it bleed a thousand shining colors in the dying sunlight like the sweater she had found in Lunenberg?
Just for her. Anything would make the child happy who rung her hands nervously now.
“Something small would be nice … but there is no reason why you should. I was not your responsibility and …”
Ever broke off, her voice dying away. She looked into his eyes and smiled gently. He would take no excuses.
