The warrior woman had always been an early riser, but as the first rays of light had crept through her window she had turned her back it. Burying her face in the fur of the man laying next to her. She clung to the hold that sleep had on her, not yet wishing to wake. His scent filled her nostrils and she could feel him laying next to her. Her head laying against his chest and the sound of his heart drummed in her ear. Still she worried that opening her eyes would make it all less real. Revealing it only to be a dream. She wanted to hold on to this feeling for the rest of her life. Thinking now she truly knew what happiness was. What it could be.
She teetered on the edge of the world of dreams and the world of the wake. Wanting just a moment more in his arms before facing the music of the morning light. At some point she knew he would have to turn and leave to return to his own home. She wished to stall the moment as long as she could. His eventual stirrings pulling at the strings of her conscientiousness and pulling back the veil of sleep. It was her tail that stirred first, tapping lightly against the mattresses.
She did not realize it, still thinking she was keeping up a guise of being asleep. That is until the wag grew in strength and thumped loudly against the bed beneath them. Her tail stopped suddenly and she buried her face even deeper against him in her slight embarrassment. Before finally surrendering her last hold on sleep. At last opening the deep brown eyes to look into beautiful gold. "Morning," she mumbled happily, contently. A smile creeping across her still sleepy face, eyes still blinking and adjusting to the morning light.
