I don't look for trouble,

The new packmember stood out behind one of the old barns, watching the herds as they grazed in the fields. Her sister was off in the pasture beyond, surely playing and entertaining herself in the ways that pups did. Addison was surprised that the young one had adapted so quickly to life in the Valley; it was as if she had always been there. She watched the form of her sibling disappear over the crest of a hill and she got up to follow her. She didn't like it when Grace left her sight. The little girl didn't have a whole lot of common sense yet, and she didn't want her getting hurt.

She spotted the pup playing in a small patch of yellow flowers, flowers that had flourished in the end-of-september heat wave that had struck, and sat down on a rock to watch her play. She was responsible for Grace and took the job seriously. She had brought Grace here to give her a better life than she would have had.

Addison yawned as she looked out over the fields, waving an annoying fly away from her face. Things were just as calm here as ever, it seemed. So much had changed since she had left, but so many other things had stayed the same. Her time away from the lands now felt like some sort of an odd dream that she was waking up from. She continued to watch the pup play, beginning to feel a little drowsy in the afternoon heat.
