Dwindle and Fade

There was something about sunny days that made the grass look a little bit greener and the sky a lighter shade of blue. Clouds floated lazily across the azure surface, leaving trails of wispy white behind. If the sky were a screen, the clouds wouldn’t have made a difference to the player’s game behind them.

The youth was sprawled lazily, her back legs extended away from each other, exposing her stomach and lower abdomen to the air. Eye lids were lowered over bright, aqua irises behind an auburn dusted muzzle pointing towards her right shoulder.

Not far off grazed her golden steed, magnificent head lowered into the sage grass. His white mane trailed across his face, mingling with the long braid of his forelock. The girl had a similar look. Red hair was tamed back into a long braid ending tail length. She had given herself a trim about a week ago but already the bang she cropped around her face and swooped in front of her ears had grown past her cheeks. The youth liked the lankly, wild look her plethora of curls gave off. The strands curled even more dangerously than her tail.

A sweet breeze ruffled the feathers that were tied to the top of the braid. She had collected three more since she had been in Miracles territory, adding to her Mother’s spotted dove feather and the jay’s that was bluer than the sea.

Letting out a content sigh, the youth continued to lay still in the grass that swept around her ankles and shielded her from the more harsh rays that came from the afternoon sun.
