Oran's breathing deepened as he sat there, calm and peaceful for the first time in...days. Weeks. Longer than that, he felt; had he ever been at peace? Truly calm and clear of mind? He didn't think he had. The muscles all along his back and sides seemed to melt, and he was left lying limply against the wall, one arm thrown over and around his head as he'd been too lazy to lower it again. He continued to listen to the howls, for a moment recognizing them for the wind they were, and was at peace.

The moment was broken by footsteps, and he was instantly on edge again, rolling into the middle of the tunnel and scuttling back as silently as he possibly could, barely making the sounds of sand scraping on rock that most would. Well, most wolves of normal mentality, that is. His eyes strained to see in the darkness, only catching the shifting of one shadow to another, and even that was mostly in his mind.

His ribs ached too much for him to do more than crouch there, the only sound his slightly heavy, uneven breathing. The footsteps had ceased; did that mean he'd been found? Had they come at last to finish him off? Baring his teeth slightly, he crouched more, wrapping one arm around his ribs. You won't take me alive. He growled, more out of habit than anything else, as he began backing slowly down the tunnel.

He hit a wall after a few steps, and pressed himself back, suddenly uncertain which direction the enemy was in. Or was he surrounded? Hissing slightly, he pressed tightly to the wall, his ears swiveling furiously on top of his head to catch any sign of where they were.
