M - a shifting tide

Sorry to jump on this, but I'm itching to write with Kesho a bit. Lol. :> WC: 518

Kesho had expected exactly nothing from Hybrid after he explained his shortcomings, his flaw in morality. It was something that was hard to overcome. Yes, he was working towards it, but those old prejudices couldn't help but creep up. He didn't want to feel like he had to explain himself to Hybrid, but felt it anyways. The old man sighed; he could tell that this man held their Aquila in high regard, and Kesho's attention darted away briefly, if only to escape the persistently ominous feeling of being doubted.

It was difficult for him to explain what troubled his mind. Even he did not fully know, but there was more to it than simple prejudice. You've always got me here, Kesho... the voice in his head cooed tortuously. The man winced slightly, then cleared his throat. Hybrid spoke now, and Kesho turned his attentions immediately to the other man.

“Inferni’s lost some of its glory, but we’re still alive,” spoke Hybrid. “Too many fucking wolves in the clan now. And stupid members. We got plenty of those. Fucking Syemv scum in our fucking clan,” the man concluded with a hiss.

Kesho nodded fervently at this. He could not agree more. It's true, the glory days were long gone, but the clan was still something to be proud of.

It was also fact that several of the clan's members were not the sharpest in the bunch, and they could probably do just fine without them. He thought of Izaak, the lovable child that couldn't seem to grasp any concept of reality Kesho had attempted to throw at him. There was also Sepirah, whose eyes judged too quickly. He knew little about her, but was unsure how to feel. She couldn't be trusted yet, that was certain.

"Yeah. At least we're alive..." he agreed, trailing off, slight hesitence and certain reminiscence in his voice. No, now was not a time to get lost in memories again. He looked up at Hybrid, red eyes dark again. "It doesn't feel the same, that's for sure." he sighed. "I chased off a wolf not long ago; he didn't even know how to fight. Back then, that wolf better have come prepared." his eyes narrowed, remembering his brief but invigorating encounter with Shawchert. "They aren't so afraid, anymore. I wonder why..."

But he knew why. If there were wolf hybrids, near-wolves, in a coyote clan like this, then the pureblooded wolf beasts wouldn't know that they were untrustworthy. There was hardly any of that fear left. Should it be revived? Could it be revived? Really, Kesho didn't know. Maybe it was better this way.

"Maybe it's better." he said it, but didn't really mean it. So why even say it? he thought to himself. Because you're a pussy who just wants to agree with everyone to make himself feel better! screamed the response in his head. Oh, how he wished that would go away. It was tormenting. Sometimes, he really believed those thoughts.
