Theodoric had been planning (and putting off) a scavenging trip to Halifax for nearly a week now. He had, for the most part, settled into life in AniWaya. He now called one of the village huts his own, and had put considerable work into repairing the building. The Scottish immigrant had the home nearly arranged to his satisfaction, but was missing a few key pieces. Some things he hoped he could trade for among the craftsmen of his new tribe. For others, he knew he was better off looking through old human settlements. According to an ancient atlas, there were two small cities near the packlands and Halifax, which was further afield. In his limited scavenging experience, the smaller towns were nearly picked clean of anything useful; since he was looking for a few specialized items, Theo decided that despite its distance, the city was the better option. His ponies kvetched at being loaded with rations and empty saddlebags, but ceased most of their complaining once they were on the road again.

After a two and a half days of meandering travel, Theodoric reached his destination in one of Halifax’s urban shopping districts. Although late morning, the sun had yet to burn away the remnants of last night’s chill, and the Gatlvska pulled his navy travelling cloak tight around his narrow shoulders. The ponies’ hooves clanked loudly against the battered and broken cement of the city’s streets, and the equines flared their nostrils at the noise. Many of the buildings Theo encountered were in ruin, their valuable contents destroyed. Others were blocked by tangled undergrowth and nearly impossible to get into. Theodoric pulled his ‘wish-list’ out of a pant pocket, surveyed his surroundings, and sighed. This was going to take longer than he would like.
