Colours of the morning old

Okay, I wasn't sure I'd get it up tonight, but surprise, surprise! 506 words...

It was an unusually cold day in Slytherin for the young russet wolf, with the Autumn season coming to a close, but as Poppy skedaddled out of her Victorian house that morning in order to begin her busy day of exploring and playing, she did not mind. Sure, she would rather it be as warm as it had been a few short weeks ago, but she was partly Malamute, with roots that tied her back to the Big White North, so of course she did not mind the cold weather all that much.

As she skedaddled around, stopping here and there as her nose inched closer to the ground in order to smell familiar Dahlian prints that had been left behind in the recent past, thoughts crossed her mind. From her sisters enjoying the warmth that was their home near the Orchards, to her father... doing whatever he was doing where he lived with his own pack.

Ah, Niro Takekuro She had only met him twice since she'd been born yet every time he crossed her mind, a pang of hurt seemed to rest on her tiny heart. She missed him - or at least the idea of having a father in her life. He'd said he would be visiting more often now that his leg was feeling better from that moose attack though, and Poppy was hoping he'd hold that promise. Magnolia and Foxglove hadn't even gotten the chance to see him and Poppy didn't have the courage to bring him up... she wasn't as brave as Niro had said she was.

Then her thoughts began to shift over to the very thin layer of snow that had covered the ground around her home a few mornings ago - it had only lasted for a little while and it had definitely not been a lot (merely frost, really) but it had been beautiful and Poppy was looking forward to see more of the pearly white stuff. Her family, snow, watching where she was going, it was all a lot of things for a puppy such as the russet wolf to keep track of, so it wasn't too surprising that she quickly found herself a little further away than she would be under normal circumstances.

Of course she knew her way back, it wasn't difficult, but she did wonder what her mother would say if she caught her this far from home, or what anyone else would tell the older Monroe wolf if they found her. Nonetheless, even with her worries in mind, the wolf puppy edged forward on her way, excited that she was going to at least get a chance to explore a little. She ended up finding herself near a source of water. Poppy did love water... and the fact that somebody was already there made it all the more appealing to edge a little closer...

"Hello!" she said a little shyly, which had never been a personality trait that would even remotely describe her. "I'm Poppy!" she added as she sat beside the older wolf.
