Derp.

Through the warm wave washing through him and cleansing him, Harlowe felt a stab of a strange emotion as the meeting proceeded around him. Someone else spoke out across the crowd, but Harlowe did not clearly hear the man's words -- he thought that the man called his Mother ugly, but she showed no reaction and neither did anyone else; the pale-furred youth must have imagined it. There was noise to his side and behind him, and he turned his head to look, a dark shape settling down comfortably next to him and leaning against his thigh. The youth looked on his younger brother incredously, that strange emotion in his chest intensifying as he stared down at the little boy, copying him word for word.

There was more commotion as another stranger entered their midst, all pale fur and paler eyes. His words were bold, and Harlowe did not know how to react to them. He could not imagine approaching a group of strangers in such a manner, anyway. The wolf's attention was diverted from this to his mother as she reached down to touch Scorpius -- and not him. That awkward feeling flared unbearably, and the boy stifled a whine, looking away from his mother and to the ground. She spoke, but not of him and not of his brother -- it was irrelevant banter toward the new stranger. Harlowe wanted to go and crawl into a hole somewhere -- she was supposed to make everything better, and yet her presence had only introduced this new runt and the onslaught of alien feelings that came with him.
