Although Theodoric did not know much about the traditions of his newly chosen tribe, he was delighted to hear that some sort of ceremony would be conducted at the village’s central fire. He was not a huge fan of rites and protocol, especially ones he was unfamiliar with; but Theodoric was decidedly social in nature, and was looking forward to an opportunity to mingle with his fellow packmates. He had met a handful of the AniWayan tribe members, but knew from the scents around the village that the pack was decidedly larger.
Even though he knew his clothing choices would set him apart a little, Theodoric dressed for the ceremony as he would for a night on the town. He found a clean pair of the doeskin leggings he favored and a shirt that wasn’t too badly wrinkled. From storage, he uncovered a cloak that was woven in the colors and pattern that were specific to his family. The garment was tied at the shoulder with a distinctive knot that designated him as an accomplished weaver in a Scottish guild. He hesitated in this choice, since it brought up a lot of familial history and emphasized his foreign origins. On the other hand, the significance of the cloak and the knot would likely be lost on those attending. If he was firmly rooted in this place as his present and future, he did not see the harm in a private salute to the past.
Theodoric arrived early enough to scout out a good seat, but not so early as to be the first one there. There were wolves there that he knew, some he didn’t, and one white-and-cream woman who was familiar in a way he couldn’t quite identify. He was pondering this when the Chief spoke and the meeting began. Theodoric listened attentively and applauded with the rest, grateful for their hard work and the bounty of the autumn season.
