Red Fall, Creeping Winter

What he decided to sacrifice to the fire at the seasonal ceremonies always took a great deal of contemplation. The Utina wanted to make sure that he gave up something that had some kind of special meaning to it; if it meant nothing it was no sacrifice at all. This time around it had not taken the man long to decide what he wanted to sacrifice and he had taken one of the arrows he had used in the group hunt and painted it black. The arrow had served its purpose of helping to sustain the tribe through the winter and now it could move on to a different purpose.

Nayati stood and waited for Liliana. It didn't surprise him that she wasn't right on schedule, but he was a patient man and only smiled broadly when she finally appeared. It felt good to go to the ceremony with her, the first real indication to the tribe as a whole that they were courting. It might not be incredibly obvious to all, but Nayati knew that Dawali would pick up on the signs; he wasn't one to come to the ceremony with just anyone. When they arrived they sat down together and his eyes quickly scanned over the other assembled members, recognizing all of them.

Dawali soon began to ceremony. It was true, the arrival of winter was not anything to be thankful for. It was the hardest season and they would all have to work hard to make it through to spring alright, but the hunter had faith in the tribe. They would persevere. Nayati was a little surprised, and deeply flattered, that the Kalona decided to make an announcement about the group hunt. The Enagayahe Kanati stood up briefly, bowing his head in thanks for the praise before quietly returning to his seat.
