Read-only, unless fae love wants to jump in. It’s Ezra’s first transformation. :3 Lyrics from Anberlin’s “Soft Skeletons.”

Ezra was haunted. Every morning the boy woke up in a cold sweat, furious at his inability to stop the event that scarred his life. That crazy male had ruthlessly attacked him. Ouija was biased because of Ezra’s blood and wanted to ruin him. He had taken one of the few things Ezra was truly blessed to have. He loved his body, he loved his heritage. The Rosen family was pure. The few bad events Ezra had before coming to the Court had jaded his perception on the luperci. They were vicious, cruel beings that had no regard for anything sacred. Ezra wanted no part of that world. Now, there was nothing he could do. He was one of them.

Don't fix your eyes

A fix you'll rely on

Fixed her eyes on

A fix she relies upon

But then, there was Ever. She was a werewolf (and proud to be one). God, he loved that girl more than anything else in the world. She was his other half; she was beautiful, clever, and the warmest creature he had ever seen before. She had saved him after the attack. Her and Alaine patched him up and took care of him; now, he would be forever in debt to his mate. There had been so much conflict between them before. Now that Ezra had been tainted, the two had grown closer. He would have to understand her way of life. He had planned on being the best mate in the world before this, but now they were on the same level ground. It was fate; this horrific event was meant to bring him closer with Ever. There was absolutely no other explanation.

Stand unafraid

All the good souls

Stand unafraid

He had to embrace this new side of him. He could feel it creeping up on him. In those chilly, dark days in his den, Ezra waited for his body to heal. After the first week the bruises on his back and legs were gone and he could limp outside without outwardly appearing to be in pain. Ever had stayed by his side and helped him every day. Recently, the wound on his neck had healed and in its place were three little scars in the shape of Ouija’s paw from where he had slashed it. His shoulder was another mess entirely. It still ached every time it was moved, but at least the boy wasn’t limping anymore. The wound was starting to heal, but was healing slower than normal because it was the product of Ouija slashing his shoulder to pieces and biting it. It was ground zero. His shoulder was the infection site.

When the light starts to burn

And the pain returns

I just wish that I could heal the hurt you feel tonight

Ezra knew today was the day. He could feel it itching in his body, like some demon swirling under his skin that was dying to get out. It was a side of him that Ezra never wanted to confront. But that first initial transformation had to happen. His shoulder was healed enough in order for it to occur, the virus knew that. It was driving him mad. The boy found himself on the balmy day outside by his favorite willow tree, stretching his legs. Ezra wondered where Ever had wandered off to, but it didn’t really concern him. She still lived in her own home with her adopted parents, and Ezra still preferred his den. They would move in eventually, he supposed.

How can you expect to win this war

If you're too afraid to fight

If you're too afraid to fight

Without warning, the demon took over. Ezra could feel it, the itching became intolerable – it was time to face it and embrace it. His ebony fur grew, and Ezra felt a mane growing down the length of his back. His feet felt squished, too small, before they slowly started elongating and enlarging. Bi-colored eyes slammed shut, dark muzzle breathing heavily. He would not freak out. This was meant to happen. Ezra’s back cracked and contorted so much that the mutt lay on the ground to counteract the dizziness and uncomfortable feeling he was getting. His dog-like tail grew substantially, getting much larger and coarser. Ezra panted, feeling sick to his stomach. Bones kept cracking, ribs grew wider, and skull grew larger. The boy had no sense of time, he wasn’t thinking about anything but the sensation he felt in his limbs at that very moment. It had happened.

Trapped inside

A pretty little lie

Your body's betrayed

It was complete. The mutt, still in shock, looked at his new, gazelle-like legs and dexterous hands. It was sickening. Ezra picked himself off the frosty ground and stood up. Like a human child learning to walk, he slowly made his way over to the little pond by his den, uneasy in his new body. The almost frozen water presented the boy in a completely new light. He was far larger. The white above his eyes had extended almost up to his ears, making the boy look like he was wearing a mask. His legs looked different, too – instead of a clear line between white and black on his limbs, the thick fur formed a gradient. The boy shut his eyes again, furrowing his brows as if that would make his new body go away. Without really thinking, Ezra threw his head back and let out a piercing howl. It sounded different, lower, as if someone else inhabited his body. He only prayed that Ever could hear him.

Everything had changed.
