Set in the forest outside of the caves, early morning.

Under his feet the ground was dusted with snow. He kicked it up as he walked, breathing steam with every exhale, staring ahead with an odd sort of muted expression on his face. Like it or not, he was now a part of this pack. Family or not, he disliked the tainted blood. Misery had insisted, though, and Eris was much happier now. She had begun to finally glow, even if she rarely came outside. This was probably due to the soon-to-be arrival of the children.

Tak, he was about to be a father. The notion frightened him. He didn’t know what to do, even though Misery had assured him he would, and he worried that this place might turn them sour. Again, Misery had insisted otherwise. So he believed her, as he always would, and left it to Eris to sort things out for the time that was fast approaching. He had to deal with other things.

His mare had been lucky. Larkspur had found an area that would suit well for her to graze, and offered shelter. Despite the sparse trees, a clumping of evergreens had suited his purpose. He no longer worried that the horse would leave him. In the time she had been his, they had formed a bond—one which he was slowly beginning to understand was strengthening. He did not fully understand low-speech, but she managed to communicate to him well enough. A whinny greeted the salt-and-pepper wolf, who smiled at the sight of the draft horse approaching. The Belgian nudged him in greeting, her large nose pushing against his chest. He rubbed the flat part of her face under a heavy forelock and sighed.
