Randomly, there came a day when Theodoric awoke with the desire to see the sea again. So instead of rekindling last night’s fire, he ate a cold and hurried breakfast. Finished, Theodoric asked his owl if she’d like to accompany him (she didn’t), threw a cloak over his shoulders, and headed out the door. Outside his hut in the AniWayan village, the day was overcast and chilly; not ideal weather for a trip to the beach. All the Gatlvska really wanted was to feel the sea-salt wind and watch the rolling waves for a while, so other than the chill, the weather didn’t bother him. After all, in the port city he had grown up in, chilly, rainy days were not uncommon.

Theodoric headed north out of the packlands, adopting a loose, loping walk that was a comfortable traveling gait. The damp landscape of the AniWayan territories was still lovely at this time of the year, but with the ocean in mind, he didn’t pause to admire it. After an hour or so of steady walking, he began to recognize the distinctive landscape of the beast’s grin peninsula. Slowing slightly to prevent a twisted ankle, Theodoric carefully made his way to the waterside. He stood just out of reach of the lapping waves, smiling now and then when a gust of salty air blew in off of the ocean and tussled his nut-brown hair. A pair of seagulls shrieked at him for disturbing their foraging, their cries muted by the rush of wind and wave. Curious now, Theodoric found a nearby tidal pool and crouched down to inspect its contents.
