Big Grin

INCHARACTER

If Vheissu had been paying attention he would have noticed the woman’s displeasure at what he, being a Southern gentleman, viewed as a term of cordiality. He however was taking the moment’s silence to calculate just how long it would be until he finally reached Phoenix Valley with the woman in tow. She would probably slow him down considerably, he thought with a flicker of annoyance. But what could be done? He had better come up with something quickly.

Since the vigilante’s thoughts were thus occupied, he did not even notice the woman’s proximity until her sly voice came slithering into his ear. Vheissu inclined his head the opposite way ever so subtly, fighting a look of serious disapproval. He tried his best to keep his expression remote and reserved though the lady was gnawing on his proverbial last nerve. He cleared his throat. “Just a friend,” he answered, his tone signaling finality. He did not wish to give away too much when looking for his prey, most of all his name. In fact, Vheissu made a point not to even think of him in terms of his name, but instead the hotly pursued creature that he was. The wayfarer shrugged off the compliment, for reasons he couldn’t fully admit to himself. Did they look alike? The ginger man frowned, carefully calculating his next answer. A few seconds ticked by.

“You could say we were brothers,” he affirmed, darkness seeping into his voice. He had no idea what his answer could do to the lady’s imagination, nor did he care at this point. He wasn’t a fun person, just as the chocolate woman feared. Fun was a leisure that he could not afford, a concept that was almost foreign to him now. Vheissu could imagine now how much she was regretting engaging him in the first place.

The man let out a sigh, releasing with it some of the anxiety in his chest. Sometimes," came his grunt in reply to her final jesting statement. Either he was not paying attention to his company, or he was pointedly keeping his eyes off her, when he spoke again, changing the subject. "You heading my way as well?"
