It hurt so much.

It hurt with the fire of a thousand suns that Bangle said the kiss was a mistake. It wrenched at her heart, but Skye was strong - she knew that she had only known the man for a short while, and that it was alright...people made mistakes. But it did hurt. It hurt a lot. She wanted to ball up and cry, but she wouldn't let herself - at least, not in front of him. It hurt, yes, it hurt, but there were more important things than Skye's silly and inexperienced heart. She spoke.

"So it was a mistake," she said, her voice cracking a bit. "And you couldn't have grown the balls to tell me that?" Her words were harsh, she knew, but she wanted to make a point. Bangle was just prolonging the inevitable, she knew - it hurt. It hurt. But she knew. She knew that if she had met this man only a few months before, even if it did seem like a lifetime to her, it wouldn't work. A few months to a canine was much longer than a few months to a human - it was like a few years, actually. But in Skye's mind, she wasn't thinking rationally. She was trying to soothe herself, tell herself that it wasn't her, it was...it was...she didn't know what it was. But she had been stupid, unexceptionably and ridiculously stupid, to believe for one single instant she had been something special to Bangle.

She heard Bangle shout out a 'no!', and a snarl curled on his lips. His tail lashed back and forth, and Skye wondered what was wrong with the man. What was wrong? Why was he talking to himself? Or was he talking to her, telling her no, telling her to go away? Skye's ears flattened, and something else snuck into her mind. This man had done a lot of things, an infinite number of things, to make her angry like she was now! Skye was almost never angry. She was a mellow child. But now, now the anger flowed over her like too much water in a cup - it hurt, yes, the fact that she wasn't special to Bangle hurt, but he had acted like it was the biggest statement of his life. She would show him. And there were more things she had to tell him! Like how he had acted at the fight!

"And what about the fight, hmm?" she asked, her voice dangerously low and like a snarl. "Sky and Orin, both pregnant, fighting! They could have killed their children! They could have killed each other! And you just watched, like a moron! Doing nothing! Watching and grinning!"

Skye was fuming at this point. He had hidden from her, limping around like a sick dog, and yet he had grinned and watched the fight from his tree like a pathetic pansy. Orin and Sky could have hurt each other, could have killed their children! Who knew! Looking at their injuries and scars they inflicted on each other now, they could have already hurt one of themselves or children gravely! Skye's tail lashed and her teeth bared in a snarl at the man who had sat, lolloping, while his pack was in danger.
