The lighthouse was impressive. She always saw these in books that she tried to read, but never actually been to one. This was an experience then. She stopped staring at it and looked at Itzal. She nodded at his statement, and then slowly followed him over the rocks toward the rusted door. She was careful on the slippery, mossy rocks and it kept her a little longer.
Itzal was already inside the lighthouse when she reached the door. She stepped inside and the cold metal floor nipped at her pads. It was just a circular room. There was a decaying desk toward the back of the room, and it didn’t seem to have anything interesting on it, or in it since all the drawers were missing.
She followed Itzal up the first flight of stairs and she stopped at a door leading to a little room. The room was tiny. Maybe a small office? There wasn’t even enough room for a bed in there, but there was an ancient piece of paper in there. She went over to sniff it. It smelled dusty. She lifted her head, and jumped back. A human skeleton was slouched in the corner of the room. It was so caked with dust and debris that it was barely noticeable until you were in the room. Axelle backed away and out of the room with her eyes locked on the corpse. It still had decaying clothes on. A blue jumper it looked like and the skull was wearing a blue cap. Both clothing items were holy and dusty from all the years of sitting there. Axelle’s hair was standing on end as she looked at this poor soul’s corpse rotting away in the corner.
