While Larkspur himself belonged not only to Anathema but to the D’Angelo family as well, there was no pride in him regarding what this place was becoming. He did not need them—his children did, and Eris did, but beyond that his goal was singular and narrow. Spread the word as he had been taught, and raise the children that were now playing in the large area before him.

The children were involved in their play so they did not notice the woman nearby. Larkspur looked up to her, eyeing her with the caution of a new father, but also the suspicion he had carried with him since birth. This woman was hardly a threat, especially given her hesitation with her last name. Perhaps she was not proud of such a thing. “A month,” he answered. “Larkspur. Y’must be from Naniko’s side of the family, ah?” The resemblance was certainly there.
